What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an ancient healing science that aims to balance the body's energy or qi (chee) for optimal health. Qi is our life force; it flows through channels, bathes the organs and helps us move, think, feel and work. When the flow of qi is interrupted in the body, there is a resulting imbalance or disharmony that may cause pain or disease (dis-ease).
How does Acupuncture work?
Qi flows through channels or meridians in the body. These meridians were mapped out by the ancient Chinese centuries ago. The acupuncture points along these meridians are places where qi comes closest to the surface. Inserting needles at these points stimulate physiological changes in the flow of qi. Areas of stagnation or bunched-up qi are released and deficient areas are enhanced. There is a fine tuning or rebalancing of energy that affects blood circulation, neural connections, immune and endocrine response.
What should I expect from a visit to the Acupuncture Center?
Initially, diagnosis is made by compiling information from an in-depth health history, pulse taking, gentle abdominal palpation and possible inspection of the tongue.
The Acupuncture Center treats with only sterile disposable needles that are gently inserted into the body in order to move or strengthen qi. Treatment is done with patients fully clothed as long as the acupuncturist is able to access areas above the knees and elbows. After the needles are inserted, you will lay quietly for twenty to forty minutes listening to soft, relaxing music.
Many conditions are treatable with acupuncture. Call 508-363-3490 today if you would like to receive a brochure, or to speak with Ms. Roy about a particular concern, or to schedule an appointment.
